Week 7: Wonderful trip to Salzburg
After making it back from spring break, we were finally able
to spend some time back at “home” and sleep in our own beds again. Spring break
was an absolute blast and I loved every minute of it, but I was glad to be back
in Olomouc. We had another full week of classes, which included some great
speakers and of course it also meant that I found myself struggling in the
Czech language class- like always. The week was full of doing lots of laundry,
eating at our favorite restaurants, and just enjoying the little time we have
left in the Czech Republic. It was a great week, and then Friday came around
and we were ready to travel again! After class we jumped on a train and were on
our way to the beautiful mountain city of Salzburg.
After many delays and missing our trains, Therin and I
finally made it to Salzburg where we also met up with Hana. Us three girls were
all excited to be Salzburg; however, we had no clue that this weekend would be
one of our favorite places. With the stunning mountains and amazing castle, the
city of Salzburg is where the Sound of
Music was filmed. It is also home to Mozart and some of the best looking
men in the world (sorry Luke, just kidding). Not only were we enjoying the
amazing scenery surrounding us, but we also had a great time exploring the
city. We climbed up to the top of the castle and were able to learn a lot about
the history and also found a great place that overlooked the entire city with
the mountains surrounding it. It was fun to explore all of the churches, find
the place were Mozart used to live, and see all of the lovely gardens.
Fell in love with this city

Some great views of the city!
We found the cutest little shop that was full of thousands of hand painted eggs! It was so cute!!
We picked the best weekend to come to Salzburg, because it
was the beginning of May and there was a celebration. There was a half marathon
going, along with some Austria traditions for May Day. On Saturday, we toured
the city in the morning for a little bit and then of course we had to go find
the wine festival. We had a great time sitting in the gorgeous gardens sipping
on wine and soaking up the sun for a couple hours. After we left the wine
festival, we decided that we might as well just go find our way to the
Augustiner Brau. This beer garden was packed full of people enjoying a nice day.
Us three girls got there around three in the afternoon and thought we would
just have a couple beers and leave, but we ended staying until 11pm. We had such
a great time just talking with each other and people watching the Austrians. A
group of five Austrians men thought that our table of girls needed some company
so they decided to join us haha. We had a great time talking with these guys,
trying to learn some German, and also learning some fun Austrian traditions.
These guys were all farmers and were very surprised that I also grew up on a
farm, so it was fun to be able to compare the their agriculture to Nebraska’s. If
you ever make your way to Salzburg, you for sure have to find this brewery and
spend an entire afternoon, and maybe also the evening too, enjoying the beer
garden.
Enjoying our wine in the lovely gardens!

We had a blast with the Austrian farmers!
Like ever single blog that I write, I always have to add
about how amazing the food is every place I go. Salzburg did not disappoint,
especially with their famous apple strudel. We were able to enjoy many great
breakfasts, some sausages and schnitzels at the festivals, and great dinners.
The last night we were in Salzburg Therin and I found a restaurant with the
best soup I have ever tasted and some great goulash. However, my favorite thing
about this restaurant was that they were playing popular American country
music, which I terribly miss. In Europe you hardly ever hear country music, so
I was just in paradise listening to something that I miss so much from home.
Salzburg will go definitely be a place that I will never forget.
The amazing goulash!
What a weekend!
